Here's Why We Love Skirts Again

Skirts are having themselves a moment again.

To be fair, I don't believe skirts ever went out of style. But certain wardrobe pieces always ebb and flow in popularity. And all of a sudden skirts seem to be winning the crown.

Length-wise, we're seeing it all. Short cheer-inspired minis, long slinky 90s-like hemlines, cotton A-line midis... the options are endless. Prints, solids, textures, you name it, you can find it.

So why do we love this skirt resurgence so much? I personally think it feels fresh. We've spent a long time in matching sets - which are still a must-have - but it's time to try something new. Skirts are a great way to elevate a daily look by simply swapping your typical denim bottoms. They're surprisingly easy & comfortable. Something fun to style for almost any occasion this season. Here are some specifics.

Exhibit A: the elevated "everyday" look

Ranging from midi to maxi lengths, the cotton skirt is a treasured piece for current street style looks. You really cannot deny the effortless, yet elevated vibe they add to a rather simple outfit formula. Any of these looks would be much different with a pair of denim swapped in. The flowy aesthetic gives it something special without sacrificing comfort or ease. Actually, does it increase comfort? Pair with sneakers, sandals or flats and you've conquered your sunny season wardrobe.

> Tempted to order a navy blue one from Quince
> This one from LOFT is a great price & brown is the "it" color

Exhibit B: comfort + practicality

Gone are the days of awkward, ill-fitting racquet sports outfits for women. Trust me, I did my internship at a private club and even the most expensive skirts always felt... off. Maybe it's simply rise in acceptance of athletic wear for street wear, but either way, it's a trend you'll be happy to take part in. Even if you don't play! Athletic skirts (or skorts, rather) are comfortable, practical and can be a bit edgy if styled right. You can pair them as a matching set, with a crew neck, graphic tee and even polo tops. Sneakers are the best shoe choice and don't forget accessories. This can be your new weekend go to.

> Abercrombie's YPB Active line is legit good - I love this skirt that comes in a ton of patterns & colors

Exhibit C: uncomplicated + elevated

My favorite 90s-revival trend, by far, is the long slinky maxi skirts. There's something so 10 Things I Hate About You about it that brings up all the nostalgia but also allows me to recreate 'fits some of us were too young yet to wear at the time. It also feels fresh right now because we're seeing velvet florals on mesh, semi-sheer lace and a variety of patterns. You definitely don't have to stick to satin fabrics. It's vey easy to overdress this style if you're looking for more of an "everyday" outfit. Stick to plain tees, loose button downs and sleeveless tops to keep it casual.
