"I have no idea what to where when..."
I've lost count how many times I've heard women express frustration on getting dressed for a Saturday.
Now, "Saturday" could truly mean different things to different people. Maybe you work from home and you find yourself in this situation on weekdays. You could be a stay-at-home-mom with similar woes. Or a 9-5 keeps you dressed on the weekdays, but you're lost on what to wear when you wake up on the weekend with no plans, but some plans... ya know?
"I want to be comfortable, but still look nice"
"We're hauling the kids to Home Depot, then groceries, then maybe grab lunch"
"Jeans don't always feel good, but everything else feels sloppy"
"I feel like I only wear my work clothes or sweatpants"
Here to reassure you, you're not alone! With aging and ever-changing trends and those trends not feeling applicable to our 30-something lives and our days looking a bit foreign at times, the struggle can be real.
Honestly in most cases, I believe women have solutions already in their closet. It comes down to styling and grabbing those pieces you typically save for "this or that" and wear them differently. But, if you're in need of some new things to shake up the options, I get that too. So, here are some easy outfit ideas for a Saturday with minimal plans.
Button-Ups & Polo Tops
You know what instantly changes a shirt + denim combination? Simply swapping out that plain long sleeve (or short sleeve) top for a breezy button-up or polo-inspired shirt. While polo options are definitely more of a current "trend", a button-up simply never goes out of style. For weekends, I always recommend an oversized look. One, it's more comfortable. Two, it creates that effortless yet intentional appearance we all seem to crave. Oh, and three? Either can be paired with almost any bottoms.
Our Haust Polo Top is a great short sleeve option for warmer months.
Love butter yellow button up from Gap and this bold striped option from H&M.
Try something other than denim
Speaking of bottoms, we (thankfully) live in a time where there are many, many alternatives to wearing jeans. Trousers are still trendy, sweatpants & track pants have become wardrobe staples, athletic skorts are a must, wide leg cotton options are everywhere - I could go on and on. And while I do personally still reach for denim multiple times a week, I'm finding myself avoiding them more and more. Switching it up can instantly make an outfit more interesting without making it too casual. Back to the button-up idea to pair with track pants and ballet flats. Or a polo top with your favorite golf skirt and sneakers. Honestly, in this modern, casual reality we're living in, you can be very creative without feeling like you're too underdressed.
Our Drom Pant works perfectly with sweatshirts, sweaters and tees.

These are my personal choice for track pants - keep it classic!
It doesn't always have to be sneakers
Onto footwear, I'm guilty of defaulting to sneakers almost daily. But as we experience the massive resurgence of ballet flats, alternative options have never been easier. Mary Jane styles are my personal favorite, I think they add interest and are very flattering. Mesh or netted fabrics are most coveted - they are great sandal substitutes. Loafers are also still on trend if you're anti-flat (which I totally get). And the sandal of the season? In all seriousness, it's the flip flop.
There are so many options, but this H&M pair is a good place to start.
Did you say Canadian tuxedo?
Everyone did. Denim on denim was in the works again a few years ago, but I think it's now hitting the hot button. A polished denim button-up with a great pair of jeans always looks très chic. Elevate it with a pop of colored footwear, bold accessories and a great bag. Minimal effort, big impact.
A great button up option at Mango; a sleeveless look from AE.
In with the maximalism
If you're a millennial woman, its safe to assume you've just spent years trying to neutralize your wardrobe. *my hand is raised So of course, as trends go, we're on our way to seeing more maximalism. No, it's not fair, but it's also somewhat refreshing. Instead of going out and overhauling your perfectly good closet, try incorporating more accessories. Even on the weekends, with the simplest of outfits, the right mixture can really pack a punch. Bold gold jewelry is always in, but silver works great too if you prefer. Try a colorful, chunky beaded necklace stacked with your delicates. Incoporate a silk scarf around your neck or in your hair. Put a pair of ruffle socks on with your flats and don't forget your favorite tote. With a bag charm!

Once you have a favorite outfit formula, don't be afraid to simply stick to it. I always want to say "don't overthink it" to everyone who asks, but I know that's easier said than done. Hopefully this gives you a bit to start from on those Saturdays (or any day) you're not sure what to wear. Get creative, try something new... and stay comfortable!
